Fun times in Vernon

We had a great welcoming party Thursday as we backed in to Jeff and Christal's driveway in Vernon. In the front window, there were big waves and huge smiles from Owen and Christal. An excited dog was jumping and barking. Sweet little Evelyn stood frozen in her mesmerized state. And Jeff arrived home from work just behind us. It was the start of a great weekend.

It didn't take long for that shyness to subside. We soaked up those big smiles, the giggles, the cuddles, the hugs and the kisses. Lots of fun.

Christal's parents, Lane and Marg came by for dinner on Saturday night and Richard and Janice joined us later that evening for a visit around the fire. They had stayed an extra day for the Falkland rodeo. Yes, it was a great weekend!

Moving day

Well, our week at Osoyoos has come to an end.  We would end each day saying "What a good day!"  And yes, we truly enjoyed our time here.

The weather wasn't as warm or as sunny as other years, but It didn't hold us back.  We still did the bike rides, sat at the firepit and spent much time outdoors.  There were good times indoors also.  We spent over an hour at the Osoyoos Model Railway.  It was awesome.  So much detail and so many scenes re-created in miniature.  You have to see it to fully appreciate all the work that went in to this.  The pictures don't do it justice.

There was some wine tasting at the Burrowing Owl.  And remember those huge Adirondack chairs that advertise "The Cottages"?  We finally found where that subdivision is located and had a look at all the construction taking place there.

 

Plus there were the games nights playing Sequence and Dominoes.  Yes, they were GREAT times!

 

Richard and Janice have already moved on and will spend a night in Vernon visiting.  We, too, are headed to Vernon and will park in Jeff's driveway for the long weekend.  We are really looking forward to spending some time with Owen and Evelyn!

The weather has been great. We've been on bike rides and a driving tour. There has been delicious meals, interesting and plenty of conversation over cocktails plus good times playing "Sequence" which is my new favourite board /card game.




Yesterday we had a bit of rain (good time for the drive) and it's cloudy and cooler today but most of our day is spent outdoors. We will be heading to Vernon on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

We were so saddened to hear about the Lac Pelletier cabin fires, two and three cabins from ours. So devastating. We were very lucky to be spared.

Back in Midway, the rain stopped and we were able to have a pre-dinner fire prior to dinner.  Also had a short visit with the Oliver neighbours (formerly from AB).  However, another chilly evening drove us indoors.

And now we are at Osoyoos.  We are loving the warmer weather but not the wind.  Also? Fish flies.  Many many fish flies. Ugh.... *spit spit*

Richard and Janice arrived before dinner.  It was great 'catching up' over drinks and dinner at our place.

Next day and more wind.  Out came the kites.

We picked up a few groceries had our annual Home Hardware shopping trip.  Later, Richard blew a bike tire, so there was also an extra trip to the bike shop.  We had our own private air show when a couple of WWII Harvard airplanes were doing some formation fly-overs with manoeuvres.  Very cool!  

All in all it was a great day. Despite the wind and those fish flies.  We alternate meals and Richard and Janice served up a great chicken dinner.

One of the big disappointments was finding out the pool area is closed for renos.  We miss that evening soak in the hot tub.  Today's forecast is 26C and so far, NO WIND!  Ron is headed outdoors with coffee.

Mostly nice because no neighbours.. Unfortunately they arrived after photo taken :(

It was a cool 7C when we arrived yesterday and we ended up spending the evening inside.  It started out nice this morning and we managed a bike ride about the town.  That takes about 15 minutes... (It's a small town!)  We also checked out the local hardware but no bargains to be found.

And now. Rain.  I hope Osoyoos turns on the heat and turns off the water when we arrive there tomorrow.

P.S. Almost forgot to mention the snow in the pass on the drive here... yikes, ugly!

Heading West - Spring 2015

Here we are.. Spring 2015. We've already been two nights on the road and I am just now getting to my blog. We were so busy getting ready to go and the days just slipped by.

Travel preparations began with a truck trip to Lethbridge last Tuesday for some minor truck transmission tweaks.  We needed both vehicles as we left the truck for a couple nights.  We brought the RV home Friday, packed and left Sunday.

We began this trip the same as we did last year with a stop in Jaffray, BC.  Old habits, temperature was climbing plus a cold beer was calling.  It just seemed like it was a good time to stop for the night.  It would have been perfect except for those damn trains..  oh yeah, BC camping.. trains.  Regardless, we ended up staying for two nights and night two went better than night one.  Or we are just getting used to those trains.

The first morning we awoke to frozen water lines, but otherwise, smooth travels and we transitioned quickly to our travelling lifestyle and 5th wheel routines.  We slipped across the border to Eureka for a propane and fuel fill-up plus we picked up a couple groceries.  It would seem that this is a regular occurrence at this crossing by the campground regulars.  There were no problems. Easy peasy!

Camper wise, this RV Resort is pretty quiet right now.  The permanent park models sit empty and although this place fills for the summer, most of the sites are empty now.

A couple from Medicine Hat pulled in after us and parked beside us for the first night.  The site on the other side of our unit is blocked off for the nesting Killdeer who claims that particular site every spring.

Internet has been sketchy.  Another excuse for not blogging. We are looking forward to relaxing on the Kettle River at Midway.  You got it, exactly where we camped next last year!
