The last of the stapling . . FINALLY!

We pulled out of Meota at 9 am today and put the GPS on "Go Home". We had some truck overheating issues on the way home. High winds and 29C weather is not the best combination. Out with the bug inserts and on with the heater. I hate when that happens! The big sweat.

This marks the end of our Spring 2013 RV Travels. Time to start thinking about Summer and Lac Pelletier!

Oh yes . . . One last trip highlight for us between Biggar and Rosetown. Mama moose and her baby trying to cross the highway. We stopped and waited for them but the little fella just wouldn't go across. We could hear the 'cries' as mom made numerous crossing attempts and he just didn't want to go! Fun to watch. Safe travels to them and to you this summer. We'll be back blogging come fall!

Welcome Home!

A Meota Monday

And we woke up to SUNSHINE this morning!  A beautiful day.

The flooring guys have been postponed until tomorrow.  The brothers have determined that Larry needs one more day of their help.  Personally I'm wondering if they are dragging this out because of Phyllis's awesome meals, yummy desserts and that fresh baking for their coffee breaks.  Last nights dinner?  Beef tenderloin, grilled broccoli and cauliflower with sweet potatoes and Caesar salad topped off with white chocolate cherry cheesecake.  Tonight's menu? Greek ribs

Yes, we are being wined and dined royally.  And truthfully, I think the brothers are enjoying every second with those nail guns and air staplers.

We are getting hit with the wind and the rain this morning. Brutal! I am enjoying my morning coffee in front of the electric heater.

Larry was busy with renos on the old cabin when we pulled up to their place yesterday. It didn't take Ron long to pick up a wheelbarrow and pitch in. The two worked all afternoon insulating the walls, putting up the vapour barrier etc. It is a bit of a crunch as the flooring installers will be here on Monday.

Back at the new cabin, Phyllis and I enjoyed some tea and a visit. Phyllis did mix up a batch of brownies for the construction crew and looked after the dinner prep so we . . . well, SHE wasn't totally unproductive! We also had to rescue Richard and Janice who were lost in the streets of Meota trying to locate the campground. Such a big metropolis and all -- hahaha.

Anyway, with Richard and Janice's arrival the 'work day' was done and we enjoyed cocktails and one of Phyllis's awesome meals.

Meota Regional Park

Site #225 - $25, p only

A break in the rain and we are now set up in the Meota campground for the weekend. Ron asked for a dry site in the sunshine with no mosquitoes. We are told there are none of those sites available and that there is a long waiting list for them. haha. No kidding. The mosquitoes are HORRID. There will be NO sitting out in this campground!! This "Regional Park" is looking much nicer than the last time we were here. The grass and trees have grown. We were worried that it would be a mud hole! Ron told them we have a Regional Park Pass from Lac Pelletier. Which we do. But it has expired. Whoops. We WILL have a new one and we would sooner support 'our' lake!

Just had a text from Richard and Janice. They are meeting Darryl and Deanne for lunch in Saskatoon. We will being seeing them later this afternoon. Looks like lunchtime!

Battleford, SK

Eiling Kramer Campground

Site #57 - $30, p only, Internet, Temp 18C 

Battleford. Mosquitoes. Rain. We could not believe all the water that is laying in the fields as we drove up Highway 21. Little 'ponds' everywhere. Sloughs and dugouts are overflowing. No water shortage up here! It poured most of the way and it looks like this will be our weekend forecast.

Also? Did I say mosquitoes!!?? Gah!! They are so bad in this campground. We have been spoiled down south. We sat out every day and there was not a mosquito in sight! Eau de bug spray will be the scent going forward!

So we are parked in the Eiling Kramer Campground adjacent to Ft. Battleford and overlooking the Battle River Valley. Very pretty. We opted for a night here before heading to Larry's. There was a short break in the rain. Enough time to set up and take a few pics. It will be an evening indoors.

Hello Saskatchewan

Yesterday Ron got his haircut in town and we had our last free fire at Cavan Lake. There was thunderstorm activity all around us and it sounds like there was some hail near by, but we got lucky. We sat out until 10 pm last night. It did rain overnight. We will miss that free firewood and the cheap camping. At $15. for a power site it was the best price yet!

We are now headed up Highway 21 in SK. We plan on spending a night on the road before heading to Larry's tomorrow.

Last day at Cavan Lake

Yesterday was cloudy and a bit cooler. Still, very pleasant. We rode our bikes around the lake. It is small. That probably took less than 15 minutes! We spent the afternoon sitting at the camp fire. You gotta love the free firewood. We burned a lot! Our singing minstrel greeted us when he arrived home from work, but he didn't join us. We could hear him strumming his guitar inside his trailer. Ron said he must have read my blog and is afraid to come out now.

We'll make a run to town today. Ron is hoping to get a hair cut. Tomorrow we will head up Highway 21 towards Meota, SK to visit with Larry and Phyllis. Richard and Janice will be crossing the US border today or tomorrow and plan to meet us there.

Cool at Cavan

We rode our bikes around the park yesterday. There are a number of new sites being added. Right now the new area is pretty much just a gravel parking lot. No grass, no trees. Also, there is not a lot to do in this park if you don't fish. The lake is very small and there is no beach. The loop we are camped in has the preferred sites, but most of them are occupied by seasonal campers. Once again the 'no potable water' is a draw back and is a reason that we wouldn't consider staying here long term. Regardless, there is still a waiting list for seasonal sites.

So we have this neighbor. When he got home from work yesterday, he wandered over with a beer, joined us at the fire and proceeded to tell us all about himself. About his failed computer business in Redcliffe. How he worked for Cerpro and why it failed. Now he is one of the computer programmers at Weddingstar, Inc. and is hoping it won't go down. We were a bit worried that we would be 'stuck' with him for the evening. He would head home, grab another beer and come back. (I think he may have had too many before he joined us the first time!) Anyway, after a couple more beers, he heads home, gets his guitar and wanders to the back of our site between us and our neighbors on the other side who are also sitting at their fire and he proceeds to serenade us for the evening . . . Mostly just strumming, not a lot of singing. The wandering minstrel.

This was a camping first!! Anyway, eventually he went home and it was just us again! I'm glad he works during the day. And I wonder if this will be a daily ritual!

Site #19 - $15, p only, non-potable water, free wood, Temp 19C

The best part about our short visits home besides having use of the laundry facilities is that our RV remains packed and ready to go with very little effort. We can be on the road in minutes without the exhaustion of packing and loading up. So after catching the morning news on TV, a leisurely breakfast and some last minute computer time, we were on our way.

Within ½ hour, we had arrived at Cavan Lake. All the 'nice' power sites were either occupied or marked with a "RERSERVED" sign. The signs did say to check with management and luckily we did. We were given a choice of five of the reserved sites that would be available until Friday. Perfect!

So this will be our 'home' until Friday. Ron has a stack of the free firewood chopped and ready for tonight's fire. He didn't sleep well last night so he is in for a snooze while I enjoy the sunshine. Ahhh . . . the quiet of the country . . . Love it!
