Sat 13th on to Carson City area, Nevada

The RV Park in Winnemucca (named after Chief "One moccasin") really filled up last night. We had a good visit with our neighbors who train Border Collies for agility competitions and were on their way to a dog show. A lot of people we meet are on their way to or from Yellowstone.

We bought our groceries, toured the town and then after supper, we sat around our propane fire pit. It was the warmest evening we've had this trip. We took advantage of the time change were able to 'sleep in' this morning. We are now on Pacific Time.

We have driven by a couple of large Nevada prisons along this interstate. The signs warn you not to pick up hitchhikers. 😀 We figure this is a good place to have these prisons as escapees would be spotted for miles on this flat, barren land.

There seems to be lots of mining in this Nevada desert. We aren't sure exactly what, although we have seen some coal and there is a large cement facility at Fernley out of Reno, so maybe they mine gypsum here. There is also a huge Sherwin Williams Paint factory, so there must be some mineral that they use in producing that??  I will have to do some online searching when we get a chance!

We stopped at a rest area just out of Reno for lunch today. We will head south from there towards Carson City, the State capitol, and spend the night in a nearby State Park at Washoe Lake. We need a break from the parking lot style RV Parks we've been staying in and hope to do some 'real camping' !! We will have travelled approximately 3,500 km since we left home.
