Another beautiful drive today. I've discovered that I really love the red rock and the canyons. I've also discovered that there is a town called Mexican Hat on the Utah / Arizona border. That is almost as funny as Medicine Hat!

The stretch of Highway through Mexican Hat to Kayenta is a bit of a climb and probably not the best route choice for RV's or for truckers, but I'm really glad we went that way. Monument Pass and the Valley was worth it!

It would have been that much better without the wind. And the blowing sand. There were other people also enjoying the view and taking pictures. Standing in the middle of the highway. Really! We had to actually honk at these photographers to get out of our way as we approached them at highway speed. We couldn't believe it!

So, yes, that wind made it not so pleasant. It got worse as we got closer to Flagstaff. It was reminiscent of our drive to Ely. We wouldn't have felt the climb so much if we weren't bucking those high winds. I was never so happy to reach a destination. We will buckle down and hang at Flagstaff for a few days until the wind settles. We are hearing it will be worse tomorrow.

Unfortunately we are camping at a high elevation once again. When we were at the Grand Canyon gates an hour north and at 5,000 feet it was 30C. Here at 7000 ft it was 20C. (Friday shows 14C, dipping to -2C overnight.)

This campground is a wee bit *ahem* cozy although our spot isn't bad. I think we were given a permanent resident's site who isn't here right now. It will be fine for a couple of nights if the highway noise doesn't keep us awake!?

We plan to do a bit of sightseeing from here. Possibly a day trip to Sedona without RV. It should be a bit warmer there!
