Yesterday we did the Havasu tour. The City was only established in 1964, so it's a fairly new community. This lake was formed by the Parker Dam on the Colorado (which we were told is the dammed-est river in North America). Supposedly the population of 60,000 doubles in the winter time. It will start getting busier after US Thanksgiving.
We drove across London Bridge. For those who may not know, the 1831 London bridge was bought for 2.5 million, disassembled and rebuilt here in a 3 yr. project beginning in 1968 (and ended up costing another 7 million).
We had lunch in the London Bridge Square and then we went on a Paddle Wheeler tour which circles the Island. It was interesting as we learned some history and got to view Havasu from the lake perspective. There were lots of boats and people enjoying various water activities. There was a sailboat race taking place but not a breath of wind, so they weren't moving too quickly!
Back at camp, it was a gorgeous evening. We bbqued a steak and then sat around the fire in shorts & shirt sleeves until 10 p.m. N I C E !!
This morning we are going on another driving tour - south to Parker, over the dam etc. Not sure how long we'll be staying here, but we aren't ready to leave yet.!! It's tough heading north!! It's much easier to go south.
