Site #242 - $22, p only, cell
Well, we are 'homesteaded' at Douglas Park. It's still one of our favorite spots for more secluded camping. There are not very many 'bad sites' here. We are in the same site we occupied in 2004, just after we bought this 5th wheel. It's pretty quiet with only about 6 other RV's. It will be interesting to see what the weekend brings.
When we arrived here at 12:15 p.m. yesterday there was a sign on the booth that they wouldn't be back until 1:30 and though we were welcome to look at sites, we MUST register before choosing and setting up. We were somewhat annoyed by that!! It was tempting to leave again, but this park is off the beaten track on a poor highway and when you make that effort you want to stay for awhile!
We drove to the boat launch, had lunch and were somewhat appeased when 'our site' was available! They have doubled the number of "reserve sites" here, so we were a little worried. The few 'first come' sites are not nearly as nice and we didn't know if they would let us pick a 'reserve site".
We've done the bike tour and Ron has scoured most of the sites for treasures now. He checked out the 'walk-in' tenting spots and was pretty disappointed! They were "clean as a whistle" -- his words. That's the problem at the start of camping season. There are much better 'finds' in Sept & Oct!!

The birds are very plentiful here and we enjoyed the warblers and a few other warbler sound alikes that we haven't been able to identify. Also there are hummingbirds visiting our site and I'm disappointed that I don't have a feeder for them! The bad news is that the tree 'fuzz' is flying big time! It's tough on the allergies and Ron's nose has been running constantly!
Sunday: We are quite surprised at the lack of campers. Only a handful of new units arrived. It's funny that the attendants made such a point of checking for site availability! We heard the other attendant telling someone on the phone that they had a few 'first come sites' but that they would be taking their chances to come without a reservation!! Yeah right! People would be silly to pay the extra $10. reservation fee this time of year for other than the long weekend!!
Today we road our bikes 13 km along the Trans Canada Trail to Mistusinne, around the community and back 5 kms via the highway. The shoreline along Diefenbaker Lake is very sandy in places and with a bit of imagination one is reminded of the California & Oregon coast.
We will be leaving here tomorrow and will probably make our way home. We may or may not make another stop along the way.
