We drove the scenic ocean route to Cape Disappointment State Park this morning. Yesterday as we toured along the ocean we had noticed a number of people in rubber boots out in a soggy wine-coloured field with crates etc. We wondered what they were harvesting. This morning as we left Hoquiam we drove past a large "Ocean Spray" plant and we knew exactly what they were!! Cranberry bogs!! We saw lots of cranberry fields along the way this morning, so I expect in US fashion this is probably the cranberry capital of the world. hahaha (Because, you, know.. they have the biggest & best of everything here!)
After set up and lunch (yes, it was another one of our famous short distance travel days), we did the drive about through the local ocean side communities. Once again there seems to be a lot of real estate available out there. I guess it's a sign of the times. There is some pretty nice property at a decent price if one were so inclined!
Anyway, we found the local laundromat and some cheap firewood, so with our continued good luck and no rain we can enjoy some more evening campfires!! There is no internet at the state parks however :-( We are here for 2 nights before crossing the famous 4+ mile bridge -- "The longest 3 span truss bridge in the world" (!!) -- which will take us to Astoria, Oregon.
