Site #E - $14, n/s, Temp 14C
It was a gorgeous drive on Wed along the Olympic Peninsula. The colours and reflections along Crescent Lake in the Olympic National Park were absolutely amazing! We camped at Kalaloch National Pk - 139 km / 2 hrs from Port Angeles. There were no hookups, but we were backed up to and overlooking the ocean with a fabulous view. I just couldn't quit snapping pictures!
It's probably one of the best campsites we've had in terms of view. The rain stopped shortly after we arrived and the sun began to shine. We spent many hours just sitting, admiring and listening to the crash of waves -- memories of our Oregon Coast trip. Oh yes, and there were ladybugs everywhere! I don't know if they are migrating or what the deal was but they were all over the 5th wheel -- and a few in!
Besides the sand and beaches, this area also has lush, mossy rain forests with an average of 140 inches of rain plus an additional 30 inches of tree drip or condensation from the fog!! (and we've certainly been experiencing this morning fog and condensation in our 5th wheel.) We drove to the giant cedar, Ruby Beach and decided to spend a second night.
Day 2: Today, we drove to Lake Quinault and through the rain forest there. It was surreal and even kind of spooky, like something out of a horror movie !! All the moss hanging from the trees, the lush green growth and the waterfalls.
