exploring in & around Victoria

It was SO nice to wake up to sun shining in our window this morning! And, it looks like we will see some sun for the next few days. We drove to the ferry terminal to check out the US ferry service, customs process, etc. I guess we will be spending tomorrow night in the ferry parking lot so we are ready for the 10:30 a.m. sailing on Tuesday. One needs to be 'in place' by 9 a.m. for customs search etc, so that is the best way to ensure one is on time!

We did the scenic route along Beach Drive and stopped at various points to admire the views. No, we did not see the 'rogue ship' that was seized and now docked at Ogden Point. It was a very busy port, however, and people were certainly out and about enjoying the Sunday sunshine.

Cattle Point was interesting. Apparently between 1860 & 1910, they brought cattle over from the mainland to a ranch here on the Island and when the boats were just off shore they would push the cattle overboard and let them swim to shore! There are some beautiful mansions and estates along the drive. I always wonder who all these people are and what they do (or did) for a living!

After lunch we went to the Ocean Discovery Centre. I must admit I was somewhat disappointed. There are only about 6 aquariums and it doesn't even come close to the impressive Vancouver Aquarium. The best part of that tour was getting on the elevator to enter the exhibit area and you are under the impression that you are submerging into the ocean. That part was pretty cool !! Anyway, it was entertaining to watch the various marine life as they manoeuvred about in the tanks.

That's about it for Sunday in Victoria! I'm not sure if we'll have internet tomorrow night on the docks!!
